Springtime for Hillary
Posted by D.R. Foster , Jan, 2009 @ 2:41 pmAs was expected, Hillary Clinton’s confirmation hearings turned into an absolute love fest. Sure she faced a question or two about husband Bill-Jeff’s donor list, but the rest was cream cheese.
As Alex Koppelman points out, Clinton’s answers to policy questions could have done with a bit more specificity, but the John Kerry-led committee was as complicit in that as Hillary was.
Speaking of Kerry, Mike Madden discusses to one of the more interesting subtexts to the proceedings–this exchange between two Democratic “runners-up” for the Presidency.
”Mr. President,” Clinton began to address him, as she answered a question. “I’ll take that,” Kerry answered. “Mr. President-elect … Mr. Chairman — it was a Freudian slip,” she corrected herself. “We’re both subject to those, I want you to know,” Kerry said. “Yes, indeed, indeed, on this subject, especially,” Clinton agreed, laughing.
Get over it. The consolation prizes ain’t that bad.
Here’s Hillary’s similarly lovey-dovey opening statement at the hearings:
